This article will cover 3 major tips for making your jewelry last more than a lifetime!
Firstly, let's go over what not to do
Most people get their jewelry (new or inherited) and never think twice about taking care of, or even getting it sized to fit properly. So many people will lose jewelry simply because it was the wrong size!
So what are the right things to do when it comes to taking care of your jewelry? Of course, these things are only suggestions, but feel free to do as you'd like!
Tip 1: Regular Jewelry Check-ups!
- Take your jewelry for check-ups like you would with your car or your kid!
- Make a habit of getting your jewelry checked up and cleaned every 6 months to a year.
Here are some ways to remember:
- Every time you go to the dentist (hopefully every 6-months)!
- Daylight savings time change
- When school lets out for summer and when school lets out for winter break.
Or however helps you remember!
The more frequently you get your jewelry checked and maintained, the more you can prevent any future problems that might cost more later down the road.
Fine jewelry is an investment and with proper care you can extend its lifetime!
Tip 2: Get your jewelry fitted to YOU!
You get jewelry to wear it, so why not get the size tailored to perfection?
- Rings can fly off unnoticed if they're too big. Or they could have to be cut off if you're too small.
- Necklaces, especially for women with toddlers, tend to be safer when they're able to be tucked under the shirt or they're short enough to not be grabbed and broken!
- Bracelets, same as rings, can fly off or even snag when they're too big.

Tip 3: Know when to take off your jewelry.
Jewelry is made to be worn, but to make it last longer here are a few examples of when we'd recommend taking off your jewelry:
- Swimming in a public pool. The chemicals in these pools have harmful side effects to your jewelry and can start to eat at the integrity of your jewelry, even your solid gold jewelry, to make it be stronger longer this is the best!
- Gardening. This one is a bit more for the cleanliness of your jewelry, but there have also been horror stories about people who have been digging in the dirt and ended up losing their ring in the soil forever. Alternatively, wear gardening gloves to protect your ring!
- Whenever cleaning with bleach or other hard chemicals. Bleach, like the chemicals of a public pool, can erode your gold jewelry. Pop it in your jewelry box or dish before getting down and dirty.

Bonus Tip! Keep your jewelry in a jewelry box whenever you're not wearing it:
Keeping your jewelry in a jewelry box isn’t just about organization—it’s about preserving its beauty and longevity! Here are the key benefits:
1. Protects from Tarnish & Damage
A jewelry box shields your pieces from air, moisture, and scratches, keeping metals from tarnishing and gemstones from dulling.
2. Prevents Tangles & Loss
Separate compartments keep necklaces tangle-free, small pieces secure, and everything organized—so you never lose a favorite earring again!
3. Preserves Jewelry for Years
Proper storage extends the life of your jewelry, ensuring heirlooms and everyday pieces stay beautiful and valuable for generations.
